Finishing Tips for a Biscornu Cross stitch your front and back panels. Each piece should measure the same size, for instance, 4" x 4". Backstitch around the outside of the design on each panel. This creates the sewing edge for assembly. |
Cut away the excess fabric from each panel leaving a 1/2" seam allowance from the edge of the backstitching on all sides. |
Press the seam allowances under along the backstitched edges.
Find the center mark along one edge of the first panel and place a pin to mark the center spot. A corner from the second panel will be placed at the center mark of the first. This placement is what creates the shape of the biscornu. |
Using two strands of floss, make a knot at the end and secure it to the back corner of the panel. Make a stitch through the backstitch at the pinned center mark of the first panel by passing your needle down through the backstitch. Take care not to pierce the fabric. Your two fabric pieces should be attached together by this one stitch. |
Proceed to the next backstitch on the first panel and guide your needle down through the backstitch and then through the next backstitch on the second panel, taking care to not pierce the fabric. |
Continue stitching the backstitches together in this manner from right to left. When you reach the corners, secure the corners with an extra stitch. |
Continue stitching the sides together until you arrive at the sixth side. At this point, you may fill the piece with polyester fiberfill stuffing ensuring all corners have been filled evenly. Finish sewing the last two sides together and tie off your thread by working a few extra backstitches through the first ones you initially made. |
Attach a button in the middle of the top panel and sew through the center of the biscornu when attaching the second button on the bottom panel. Work back and forth through the center of the biscornu and pull your thread securely to create a small indentation on each side. |
