STUDIO NEWS
August already? Where has the summer gone? I hope you have enjoyed the summer season as much as I have and found time to relax with your favorite craft. Each summer, I treat myself to a small break from cross stitch designing in order to indulge in other crafts which inspire me such as knitting and quilting. These past two months I have learned about knitting socks and I indulged in the art of silk ribbon embroidery and crazy quilting. It is such fun to play and to dream as there are so many beautiful fibers to choose from and experiment with. It feeds my creative spirit to dream.
During my break from designing, I have taken the opportunity
to contemplate on the five years spent so far designing for cross stitch
and to plan for the next five. I believe that in order to continue to
grow, one must be open to change. Sometimes change can be uncomfortable
and a bit scary as we are not sure of what lies ahead, but it is through
change that we are allowed to open doors of opportunity not previously
available. So with that thought in mind, I have decided to alter the
course of my art business and to discontinue the self-publishing portion
of it. I will no longer offer self-published chartpacks. Designs currently
available will remain so while supplies last in my inventory and that of
Hoffman Distributing, but will not be replenished. I will be pursuing a
freelance career and offering my designs to cross stitch magazines and
other professional publishers. I believe this will be a step in the right
direction and I look forward to opportunites that await.
Fall is my favorite season for its brilliance of color and I think that I like it best because of the unexpected changes that it always brings. I look forward to the opportunities in my career that lie ahead. Announcements of upcoming new designs on the horizon are available on my newsletter. New cross stitch designs are on the way in The Cross Stitcher and CS & Needlework Magazines. Best wishes, Melinda
